How to Create Amazing Color Schemes (When You’re Not a Designer)

How to Create a Color SchemesCreating color schemes that work for your brand can be tough if you’re not a designer. It’s even more challenging if you want to come up with a slightly different look for an annual event or marketing campaign that complements your logo and still feels like your brand. Depending on the use, it might be easier to hire a designer and work with them to make something truly dazzling. But, if you’re trying to save money (I hear you!) or if it’s for something small like a new Facebook cover photo, here are a few ways you can find the right color scheme without pulling your hair out.

  1. Use a color palette generator like Coolors. Start the generator. Click on the hex code (ex. #E3B505) and change them to your logo color. Then hit the lock icon. Now all you have to do is hit the space bar until you find a color scheme that works for you!
  2. Search Pinterest for ideas. My husband likes bright colors; I like neutral. So when it came to creating a color scheme for our home that we both liked, I went to Pinterest for help. Simply search for one color and add “color scheme,” then search. My search for “orange color scheme” came up with a few great suggestions that would work for the both of us.
  3. Try the Canva color palette tool. This one is great for two reasons. First, you can upload an image and it’ll suggest a color scheme that works for that pic. Second, I use (and highly recommend) Canva for all those times when you need to create a graphic yourself. They make it really easy to create beautiful graphics when you’re not a designer.

Good design is good for business! Take the time to figure out the right look for your business’s online presence. It’ll help you build your brand and increase your credibility with customers. Do you have a trick to creating color schemes that work? Leave your tip in the comments! ⬇
